With “Sugar & Spice”, Georg Schroeter & Marc Breitfelder have released a studio allbum which will make them popular across the borders of the Blues scene, because you don't have to be a Blues fan to really like it.
The numerous guest musicians include guitar player Jan Mohr from Hamburg, who enhances almost every song with his unobtrusive yet elegant style and sound. To “Rock 'n' Roll Queenie”, the legendary “Mr. Cleanhead” Albie Donelly (Supercharge) has contributed a fat sax arrangement as well as a breathtaking solo. Singer/songwriter Anna Kaiser came all the way from Vienna to join them on “Here And Now”. The “Pope of Blues”, Abi Wallenstein from Hamburg, is a special guest leding them his unique voice and dobro on three songs.
“Sugar & Spice” has been recorded in various studios over the past couple of years, picking the best moments from these session for the album. In charge of sound and mixing was producer Tom Ripphahn (Harmful, I Saw Elvis, Thorsten Wingenfelder, Robert Carl Blank), one of the last German analogue experts around. Consequently, the album is also available as a double long player on vinly. Photographer Thorsten Wingenfelder (Ann Kathrin Kramer, Wolfgang Niedecken, Rolf Zacher, Sandra Borgmann) shot the cover photo at the rough coast of the Baltic Sea in Kiel, home of Georg & Marc.
Luckily, “Sugar & Spice” is not an album for Blues purists since it extends the alleged limits of Blues. However, it is an album for music purist. The music is pure, the artists intentions are straighforward and the handiworks are beyond any doubt. It is also an album for the true Blues enthusiast, portraying the extent and beauty of the variety of Blues both as a musical genre and a spark plug.
